     Celebration of Scholars: Explorations in Research, Humanities, and Fine Arts

       Awards Information 

Dickinson State University will offer awards and recognition for distinguished entries.

Eligibility:  All undergraduates may compete in one or more categories:

  • Outstanding Oral Presentation (Areas I, II, and III)
  • Outstanding Poster Presentation (Areas I and II)
  • Outstanding Academic Paper (Areas I, II, and III)
  • Outstanding Creative Presentation (Area IV)

Award Areas: Awards will be given in the following academic areas:

I.            Agriculture & Natural Sciences
Oral presentations and posters must inform the audience of the research background, hypotheses, method, results, and conclusions. Papers must follow the prescribed guidelines in that area and must be approved by the faculty sponsor.

II.            Nursing, Education & Psychology
Oral presentations and posters may include (a) literature reviews (e.g., PICOT method), (b) action research (e.g., utilizing and collecting data for different educational approaches), (c) correlational or scale validation techniques, or (d) experimental or quasi-experimental designs. Papers must follow the prescribed guidelines in that area and must be approved by the faculty sponsor.

III.            Humanities
Scholarly work in the humanities must offer a unique lens on a phenomenon relevant to their discipline. Presentations and posters must inform the audience of the rationale, relevance, and implications of the work. Papers must follow the prescribed guidelines in that area and must be approved by the faculty sponsor.

IV.            Creative/Dramatic
Creative/Dramatic entries include creative writing, musical creations, and visual arts presentations. The award emphasizes original work reflecting methods or techniques learned as part of an academic program. Please consult your faculty sponsor for more information. Details may be obtained on the website.

Judging: Judges will be non-faculty members with the academic background and experience to rate the papers. Judging rubrics can be found at the “Awards” link at http://dsuresearch.com.

Submission: Academic papers must be submitted by email attachment to Dr. Wendy L. Wilson (wendy.l.wilson@dickinsonstate.edu) one week before the conference.
